For water heater rebates Long Beach California homeowners have two utilities to check: the city's own natural gas utility and Southern California Edison (SCE). DuloCore read the official pages of both on October 13, 2026.

How Much Does Long Beach Utilities Pay for a Gas Water Heater?
The rebate depends on the model's Uniform Energy Factor, or UEF. Tankless models get $80 to $1,500 and storage models get $300 to $575.
The utility's 2026 rebate application lists these tiers:
| Water heater type | UEF | Rebate |
|---|---|---|
| Tankless | 0.82 to 0.86 | $80 |
| Tankless | 0.87 to 0.94 | $900 |
| Tankless | 0.95 | $1,100 |
| Tankless | 0.96 to 0.97 | $1,300 |
| Tankless | 0.98 or above | $1,500 |
| Storage, Tier I medium draw | 0.64 to 0.67 | $300 |
| Storage, Tier II high draw | 0.68 to 0.77 | $325 |
| Storage, Tier III high draw | 0.78 or above | $575 |
The application adds conditions:
- Tankless. It must be ENERGY STAR certified and must replace a conventional tank-type water heater in a single-family detached home.
- Storage. It must be 20 to 55 gallons with a maximum input rating of 75 MBtuh, and it doesn't qualify if purchased from a statewide participating retailer.
- Both. A Long Beach permit is required, and the limit is one per household.
The gas rebates page says a tankless water heater may require a gas meter upgrade or a larger gas line. Furnace rebates are on DuloCore's Long Beach HVAC rebates page.
What Are the 2026 Purchase and Deadline Rules?
The water heater must be purchased and installed between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026, and the application postmarked by December 31, 2026.
The application also says:
- The applicant must be a residential customer with an active meter served by Long Beach Utilities.
- The product must be new and installed before applying. New construction homes don't qualify.
- The packet needs a paid receipt showing the model number and UEF, a recent City of Long Beach utility bill, and proof of any required permit.
- Applications are processed first-come, first-served until funds are depleted.
- The rebate can't exceed the purchase price, and a check is generally mailed within 10 to 12 weeks.
What Does SCE List for a Heat Pump Water Heater?
SCE's own rebates page states no dollar rebate for a water heater. Its Home Performance Plus program lists $500 to $1,350 for qualifying homes.
SCE's rebates page says Home Performance Plus is for residential electric customers who rent or own a single-family detached home, or a unit in a building with a maximum of four units, within Disadvantaged or Low-Income communities. Neither that page nor the program page mentions Long Beach.
The Home Performance Plus rebates page lists $1,350 for a 240V model of 75 gallons or less replacing a natural gas storage water heater, and $500 at the low end. The limit is one per home. DuloCore's SCE water heater page has all six amounts.
SCE's Energy Savings Assistance page lists a heat pump water heater replacement at no cost for income-qualified homeowners and renters. The eligibility check estimates programs a household may qualify for.
Which Statewide Water Heater Programs Are No Longer Open?
On October 13, 2026, one statewide heat pump water heater incentive is fully reserved, and the statewide retail rebate coupons have ended.
- TECH Clean California (fully reserved). The program's incentives page says TECH Clean California single-family heat pump water heater incentives are fully reserved and not accepting new reservations as of November 14, 2025.
- Golden State Rebates (ended). SDG&E, which awarded the program's contract, says on its rebates page that the Golden State Rebates retail rebate offerings have ended. SCE's rebates page still describes the coupons.
